Saddle Ridge Camp

If you like to have a break away from the huzz and buzz of the city, and enjoy the time with nature, then Dahilayan Adventure Zone is one of the places to visit when you are here in Northern Mindanao.

Since the time i posted my photos at FB taken during the Spiritual Retreat, several people have been asking where was the place and how much to stay there.  To answer the inquiries, I am making this post.

Location: Barangay Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon

~~Cottages~~

Cottage Rate: P1,500.00 good for 4 persons

~~New Buildking~~

Room Rate: P2,000 good for 4 persons

There is also this but i forgot to ask the rate:

Food:

They cater to big number of people just like our group.  But if you go in a small group like four persons, you can enjoy meals at Cowboy’s Grill.  Their menu prices are very affordable and I heard they have big and yummy servings.

There is also a little food shop just a few steps away from the gate of the Camp called Chef’s Favorite.  I looked at the menu written in their menu board, they serve food to satisfy your sweet tooth.

GREEN is the Color of Love

February 25, 2011 was declared holiday for schools and i was so happy because Thursday is last day of work. When i heard that there is a tree planting on that day and open for everyone (non student) i volunteered to go.  At least i got something to do instead of just lazing up in bed until half of the morning is over.

I wanna share some photos taken that morning and let the photos tell its story although i may add some comments or description to tell the whole story.

A plant a Tree Save a Soul project sponsored by the Junior Commerce International.  This project is not just a tree planting project but they monitor what they planted until it is full grown.  This program wanted to tell the world through our communities that we should be environmental conscious to improve global warming.

The “plastic-free Iligan” was also being mentioned and i hope that will be materialized.  To support that program must start within ourselves.  What we do can cause a ripple effect so if ever we personally is environment conscious, people around us will get the idea and also will apply it themselves.  We can start it by using green cleaning products at home. In this way, we support environment friendly products.

- The tree given to me to be planted. Actually one of the trees. I had two. -

Below that spot is a stream and two meters away from this spot is also a coconut tree. Down by the stream is a house.

I am hoping that in years time if ever i can have the chance to visit the place, i can still that tree grown big and strong.

Thank you JCI Iligan for the invitation extended to the schools.  We look forward to your next invitation. =)  Keep up the good work!

Glimpse of the Sky from Iligan City Hall

I wish i have counted my skywatch entries so that i can just easily title my SWF entries.

Before i travelled to Zamboanga City in October 28, i come to this place several times.  First was the interview and then later the signing up of itenerary for budget and the next was the picking up of money.  Of the 3 chances, i never took the time to stop to take photos of the place.  I feel shy.  There are many people milling around the city hall and i don’t like to get their attention by clicking my camera.

Last November 11 – i had my last chance.  I went there to sign our travel report.  I thought it would be my last time in awhile, so i decided to take a photo of the front of the building and this:

Paseo del Mar, Zamboanga City

If you have been to Zamboanga City for a day or two and have not been to Paseo del Mar, then you miss one of the beautiful landmarks of the city. We spent 4 nights there and I was able to see and feel the place during our third night because we went there to have dinner and also have a look for the nearby areas. I was so excited to see the place. I thank Ace & Kerslyn (Davao couple), Bing & Pat (Iligan couple) for agreeing to go there once again even if you have already seen the place the night before.

Here are some of our photos: (all my photos are night shots) i wonder how the place looks like in broad daylight.

a pose of remembrance at the entrance :)

They said the place is full during weekends.  People are there to eat, to enjoy the sea breeze, enjoy the bands (they have it on weekends), and others are just there to walk around.

these guys enjoying the distant lights and sea breeze.  it showered around this time.

I enjoyed taking photos of the lamp post before finding a place to eat.  And this one my fave shot of all:

The place we ate at and the food photos will be shared in another post. :)

This trip was related to the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 4 which was held earlier that day at the Garden Orchid Hotel.  City tour was scheduled the next day yet. (that would be another post in this blog).

Indeed, in less than 2 hours, it rained hard.

Because of the strong rain, the mine tour was stopped.  :(   We failed to carry or even just at least hold the stone that contains gold. :)

Unforgetable Friday.

Ola Zamboanga! We’re Here Now!

Bienvenidos!

After twelve hours bus ride, we arrived here in Zamboanga City, hungry and worn.  But more hungry that after checking in our things at Hotel Preciosa we decided to go out right away to eat.  Our things checked in first because they cancelled our reservation made online.  Good thing there was a standard room available with a bed that can accommodate two persons.

We dunno were to dine but tried to go back the road our trike pass through in going to the Hotel.  We saw common fastfoods like Jollibee, Chowking and Mc Donalds yet we decided to eat something local.  The trike driver told us about Puericulture place but we were not so sure about the place and the kind of food, so we dined here:

Looks cozy and festive!

This soup warmed our cold stomachs.  Dimple and i felt so hungry because we have not eaten rice since breakfast.
We just had bread, biscuits, and some other sweets.  :)

Our companions, Bingky and Pat of City Government of Iligan went back ahead because Bing was not feeling perfectly alright.  Theythought of resting ahead to be ready of the 5 am trip tomorrow- a Mine tour at Canatuan, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte. Oh! We are here by the way for the Mindanao Bloggers Summit (4th) which will officially begin tomorrow.

This is all for now — lemme’ say goodnight!   Dimple will get online now.  I really don’t care because all i have is a very bad headache and i wanna sleep.

Quick visit to the hilltop

I was suppose to leave very early yesterday morning but instead of waking up at 3:30 i woke up at 5:15.  So i was sure that i can’t catch up the church service anymore.  I was just in there to some friends and of course to pick something from a friend.  I arrived on time when the speaker started and oh my he spoke for almost 2 hours that the 12:30 date with friends at the under the pines was doubtful.  So i went out to see Ate Sardale to inquire of the activity.

Some pics i took while traveling up to MVC on a motorbike.  :)

Anyway, i went to see Paul at the under the pines at past 1 and we talk a bit.  There were also some friends there and before the rain started we decided to move to the Jubilee Park.  I was glad because in spite of the short time i will have the chance to take photos there.

I think it was good to be at the Jubilee Park when it was not so crowded with visitors.  But one thing i observed, it’s not so Jubilee Park anymore as it was in my time or even before my time – i long for the great view of the plains beyond and the endless sky.  For now, that’s the case anymore.  It’s more like this:

oct 23 mvc trip 4 500

I left MVC with Ma’am Apple and company at a bit past 5 and was on my way to CDO at 6:00.  Before the clock strikes 12, i was already inside the office dorm.  I jump with glee because i can imagine i would turn into a zombie if ever the clock strikes 12 and i was still outside walking towards the dorm. lol!

Though the time was limited, i had a great time meeting for a short while some friends.  Hopefully in the soon future, i can go back there and have a weekend stay at Jabby’s room. :)

My visit to the Yungang Grottoes or Datong Yungang Caves

A World Heritage Site

yungang 1

The trip was made in May 2005.  Just a few weeks off my schedule flight back to the Philipines.  This was a treat trip given by the school after finishing the whole school year contract.  So everything was free.  How i wished everyone in the department went with me to the trip.  But it was impossible because we did it on a working day.  It was a two day trip.  Destination, Datong City, Shanxi Province.  I’ve stayed there for 3 years but this was the only time i ever stepped outside of Hebei Province excluding plane transfer at HongKong and  Shenzhen when i took a vacation the year before.

So, there was only 4 of us.  Me, Penny (the woman in the pic with me) my boss, Liu Bin, the FAO, and the driver, Mr. Ma.

The highlight of the two day tour was the visit to the Yungang Grottoes  which holds 10,000 Buddha and the largest Buddha measures approximately 19 meters and the smallest one 2 cm.  This  was the first place we went when we arrived there.  After the tour there, we had lunch, checked into a hotel.  In the afternoon we visited a nearby temple and the only 9 dragon wall, glazed type, and the only one in the whole country.

I think this will be  a first one of 2 or 3 parts.  So here are a few photos of me and my companions during the travel.

weathered in time

A Buddha weathered in time.  :(    The neck is almost gone. Blown away by the wind.

Three Buddhas? :)

biggest buddha

Now this is the biggest Buddha in the cave.  The one that gets plenty of attention.  The one that is being picture.  The only one too that can be touched in the face though it was very very tall and so huge.

yungang 3

See! They let me touch it.  Penny got one like this, too.

Reminiscing this trip makes me yearn so much to go and visit my friends over there.  Maybe next week i will share some places we went to see during the afternoon.  Please don’t be bored. ok? :)
