My TVIRD Experience

Never did i imagined going up to see a mine site as far as Canatuan mine site  in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.  We were informed that the trip will take 3 hours but after 12 hours bus travel from Iligan City to the Latin City of Asia , the trip feels like going back to my hometown.  It was not exactly 3 hours.  It was more because upon leaving the highway, the road leads up and down into the mountains.  Our vehicle was not the highland sporty type so the speed was just moderate.

99% of us on the trip were first timers and that 99% represents the attendees of the Mindanao Bloggers 4th Summit that is hosted by Zamboanga bloggers.

Personally, if not for the summit, i would not have the chance to see Canatuan Mining and will see with my own eyes the betterment of the community specifically the Subanons.  TVI Resources Development  brought hope to the people of Canatuan and Siocon in general.  TVI promotes responsible mining by promoting environmental protection programs and sustainable development programs.  Being guided by human rights paradigm the company implemented community development projects that promotes sustainable life even beyond the life-of-mine and into the future.  Meaning if ever the company leaves, the community will still survive.

There were several things that awed us bloggers when we stepped foot in their area.  First, the majestic view of forests, mountains, and hills and endless cloudy blue skies.  Second, impressive buildings which we later known are staff houses.  They also have the entertainment building.  Then thirdly, the food!  It was started with a heavy snacks before the orientation began and later the sumptuous lunch, and again another heavy snacks after the exit conference.  My daughter and I were so blessed of the free food saving us the food budget for that day because even the breakfast and dinner were also shouldered by TVI.  They were so generous.  Thank you, Sir Ernie Rojo for touring us to the mine site.

I know i missed a blogger seminar that day down in the city but the things i’ve learned up there was just enough to cover up any regret.  The video was shown at the summit proper – but seeing the proof of responsible mining was one thing i would never regret missing the blogging seminar that day.  I know it’s now only me who was blessed.  All of us who were there were so impressed.  There was one thing though i wished — sana lahat kami nakasama.  Sana wala ng seminar dun sa city para lahat nakasama.   Not only were our stomachs filled but our knowledge were also enhanced.  Just so bad it rained hard that it hampered the plant site tour because it would be dangerous for us to go up the building.  Good thing we were able to come down from the open field site safely while the rain was pouring in torrents.  If it did not rain, we could have the chance to touch those reddish black stones that contains gold.  Maybe we can also get a handful of those silver looking stones. :) And for sure we could have gone to the most top of the open field to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Canatuan mining.  Oh another place we missed seeing which i would have love go to and see was the lake or the dam area.

I really don’t have too many nice pics at the open mine field because i was confined to a very small area of the viewing deck.  The rain was so strong that we can’t move around to take pictures of the whole area.

Oh well – picture talk loudly than words so i want you to enjoy the pics now.  Enough of the blah. lol

Another place we visited was the Subanon community.   Before our group went to see their nursery, a pillar of their FAITH and SALT program we witnessed how they welcome us -

We did not stay long at the open mine pit because it rained.  It rained so hard that if we waited for the rain to stop, our vehicle might have a hard time going down.  So we proceeded to the exit conference where some administrators and department heads where there to answer our questions.  This is their way of practicing “transparency” in this company.

I have really seen responsible mining there that made me wish that somehow at least all small-scale mining fields in this country are handled by investors such as TVI.

I have so many photos that i wanna share but maybe in the future posts or in related post i will be making in my other blogs.  After the exit conference that was made earlier than scheduled because of the rain,  we had this souvenir photo:

Ola Zamboanga! We’re Here Now!

Bienvenidos!

After twelve hours bus ride, we arrived here in Zamboanga City, hungry and worn.  But more hungry that after checking in our things at Hotel Preciosa we decided to go out right away to eat.  Our things checked in first because they cancelled our reservation made online.  Good thing there was a standard room available with a bed that can accommodate two persons.

We dunno were to dine but tried to go back the road our trike pass through in going to the Hotel.  We saw common fastfoods like Jollibee, Chowking and Mc Donalds yet we decided to eat something local.  The trike driver told us about Puericulture place but we were not so sure about the place and the kind of food, so we dined here:

Looks cozy and festive!

This soup warmed our cold stomachs.  Dimple and i felt so hungry because we have not eaten rice since breakfast.
We just had bread, biscuits, and some other sweets.  :)

Our companions, Bingky and Pat of City Government of Iligan went back ahead because Bing was not feeling perfectly alright.  Theythought of resting ahead to be ready of the 5 am trip tomorrow- a Mine tour at Canatuan, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte. Oh! We are here by the way for the Mindanao Bloggers Summit (4th) which will officially begin tomorrow.

This is all for now — lemme’ say goodnight!   Dimple will get online now.  I really don’t care because all i have is a very bad headache and i wanna sleep.

Manila Trip – Day 1

It’s been several years since the last time I was in Manila.  It was not even a Manila trip  because i was only passing through and i grab the chance of meeting some friends (eye ball with my kapatids in Kuro).  It was only a quick drop off before flying back to Mindanao.  And that was in 2007.

Last Friday (October 1) i had the chance to fly to Manila again.  As i’ve said in one of my posts this weekend, the trip was made possible because of Cebu Pacific cheap flights and also the Sheriff never ending outpouring of tasks.

– while on my way to boarding. i entered the rear entrance as my number was 17F–

I left Iligan seven in the morning and arrived the Cagayan de Oro airport an hour before the flight.  The weather was cloudy and gray in fact it was showering.  I was expecting for a bumpy flight.  Yes there was, but just so so.  We arrived on time per schedule so I moved slow as i was not meeting anyone except for my cousin who am going to stay with during the weekend.

I left the NAIA 3 by bus.  No need for a taxi from the airport as i was not in a hurry.  I dropped off at Baclaran to go around a bit.  It was showering and the ground is wet but i managed to go around a few corners.  Good thing i have only one stroller bag aside from two big shoulder bags that contain my laptop and usual lady handbag.  Right there and then, in less than 30 minutes, i had my first purchase.  I purchased something for my daughter.

The rain started to get stronger so i have no choice but to take a taxi that will me to TM Kalaw.  It was one of Manila’s big avenue so it was  not hard to find because from where i was it will only go along Roxas Boulevard until we reached TM Kalaw.  My cousin’s office was a shipping company so i called it — it was a world of man!  So many men that i felt id drawn so i have to leave the office.  I just can’t kill time there until he finishes his office work.

I enjoyed taking pictures even while on the taxi.  Buti nalang di nag tanong si Manong bakit ko pinipikturan ang mga buildings at iba pa. :) (Good thing the driver didn’t asked me why i was taking pictures of buildings, statues, and etc.)

The Luneta park was just a few walks away but the thought of wet grounds and it was drizzling turned me off.  I decided to walk to Robinson’s Manila.  Another place in Ermita that also brings back good memories of 2007.   At 5 i went back to my cousin’s office because we were off to the Mall of Asia.

Mall of Asia from 7 pm until past 10 pm.  We were waiting for the cousin’s gf :)

Had dinner here.  Cousin’s choice and treat. :)
Will make a separate post on my first experience at Classic Savory Chicken.

At past 10 my feet was already screaming at me to rest!

Kapoy na talaga!

IMG_1089–at last she arrived!  Almost 10:30 –

We were on the bus at 11 pm and i guess we arrived Fairview (FCM) at  a bit past midnight . I didn’t sleep tight on the bus.  I was scared if i sleep deep and my cousins will forget that they had me on the trip.  We were on separate seats as we can’t fit into a 3 seater bench. :)

This post is already full of photos.  Forgive me.  I still want to share more but will post it in other blogs.  :)   You may check them in the following blogs:

A Day at Naomi’s Botanical Garden

Our Weekend Memoirs

As i mentioned last week, i had a quiet weekend and same this week, too. Since i have time to post so I am making this post my entry to OWM. I would like to share with you a few photos i took while visiting Naomi’s Botanical Garden in Ozamis City.

It was sort of an official trip so i really did not work full-time on taking pictures but i can say that the place is so great for a weekend getaway. We were there for the last night of the wake of Pastor LT Nermal and to attend his burial the next day.

I did not sleep the whole night. Not even a minute of closing my eyes because i vowed to my friend that we will never sleep. But she did at around 4 am. hehehe…Anyways, i slept on our way back to Iligan city. :

Pink snow?

P4080389

I saw this while checking what’s outside our hotel room, while waiting for my companion retouching. We had almost an hour to freshen up but instead of taking a short sleep, i watched TV. imagine! I feel like am still 16 years old. lol! I should have rested. Anyways, i got interested by a pink patch of the ground. I thought to myself – pink snow? Well, it’s a pollen from this tree:

Quick trip to Cagayan de Oro City

Sunday afternoon, after the recognition program, i went to Cagayan de Oro to pick our commencement speaker.  Then after the graduation program, i also had the chance to send home the speaker.  It feels a bit refreshing to see different places in one day.  Sunday, i guess i was so tired i failed to take photos, but on Monday afternoon, on our way back, i just can’t stop clicking my camera.  So let me share some of these photos.

This can be used for TWThW, too.

Dec 31, 2009 Sky

Happy New Year, everyone!

It’s nice to be part of the Sky Watch Family for another year!

PC310509

We were invited on a birthday celebration.  They spent it swimming and it was a nice experience for me and Dimple because it’s our first time to be at that place.

This is a certified swimmer’s pool with 11.5 feet the deepest.

Happy Sky watching everyone!  Sorry for missing this meme for several Fridays. I was just busy with everything during the last 2 weeks of the December.

Successful Medical Mission

Yesteday, a group of medical team from Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital and College went on a medical mission in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.  It was my first time and as a first timer i can say that it was fun.  Although i was assigned in a busy spot, yet it was a great experience.

The group is composed of medical doctors, dentists, nurses, nurse aids, student nurses, and support staff.  One of my purpose in going with the group was to go swimming after the work but i came home without dipping even my foot on the tempting cool waters (spring pool). But i am positive I am going back there with the REgistrar’s office staff.

Now, here are some photos.  They were taken at lunch break and later in the afternoon when the work was done:

5. After serving a patient with the priority number, i took a pause to take these photos:

I also run to the comfort room to ease myself and saw these beauties on my way back to the table to continue my work:

6. I took a me photo too! They said if you are the one taking photos  you have less photos or no photo at all in an event. But i know i have a few — in other people’s cameras. hehehe. So here’s me -

Photobucket

Looks tired? Not really. I was all ready to go to the next destination!

By the way, Tubod Lanao del Norte, is a more than an hour trip from Iligan City going south.

We were able to serve more than a thousand patients in all areas  (dental, circumcision, consultation for adults and pedia) and i can say it was a successful medical mission.   I can also say that the support of the Municipal and also the Provincial Health Offices did a great help to the accomplishment and success of the activity yesterday.

We were treated to a very beautiful retreat place after the work was done — will post photos tomorrow. :)

Rome In The Philippines

I just knew it now that Lipa City is tagged as the Rome in the Philippines. I have to check the wikipedia on why it became the Rome of the Philippines. Wikipedia states that, “It is known as THE ROME OF PHILIPPINES because it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Lipa and some of its parishes, retreat houses and seminaries.”

Interesting! I went to Lipa City for a visit at a friend’s home and that was it. I wish i was more interested to see the place that time then i could have been able to visited many tourists spot.

You can read more of Lipa City here. More places to see in the Philippines, check out this site.
