STAMPS GALORE

Last year i received two packets of used stamps. One was from the USA (by Mommy Ebie) and the one I am sharing here is from Canada (Emarene).  Mommy sent by mail and Em sent it through the package she sent home I so love my friends who shared me their stamps to make my collection merrier.

I think i need a budget of P20,000.00 for stamp albums to contain all my collection.  I haven’t placed them in an album yet though they are already sorted into themes like (flowers, planes, animals, cars of which i wonder if auto insurance companies have insured them before they became a stamp model) but i also thought I would sort it by country.   I am not yet sure as of now.  I also plan before to make an improvised stamp album but i haven’t done it.  I need time.  My colleague’s collection is so nice.  Some were already in the album and some where still stack away in envelopes.

For now, my collection is stacked away in an envelope and placed in a box.  The packet from Canada was not yet sorted by themes because all of them are just from one country.

If you read this post and you love to share with me a duplicate of your stamp collection, please don’t hesitate to ask me my postal address.  I’d be very happy to give you. :)

Happy mid-week everyone!

Christmas 2004
Location: Zhangjiakou Vocational and Technical College

–school officials and students from other departments/schools were invited to witness the First Christmas program of the school and headed by the English Department.

Each class presented a part to serve as their examination.

The head of our Department, Penny Liu gave the welcome remarks.  She said it in English and also in Chinese for everyone’s understanding.

I also had my part.  Guess?

————————-

I sang!

Not a Christmas song.  They don’t have a Christmas song.
I sang a love song.

I now forgot the title of the song and the one who sang it.  But sort of an old love song.

It feels so scary but i finished the song all right. :)

After the program, in the evening, I went out with my co-teachers and we had our get together. I did not come home that night.  Came home December 25th in the afternoon because I had an appointment online at 2 pm.

I am trying to catch up!

Happy December everyone!  How time flies.  Yesterday was December first and now it is December second.  At times i wish time will stand still so that i can finish my work for the day. :)

Anyway, since it is Christmas and it’s my first Christmas in Nostalgia, let me share this month photos with Christmas spirit. I am really hopefully that i can complete the five Wednesday.  Few weeks from now, my daughter and I will be off for the holiday.  We are going somewhere in paradise. :)

Photos today happen in December 2004 at Zhangjiakou Vocational and Technical College.  It was the first Christmas that they had a foreign teacher so I tried to do something that their first Christmas with a foreign teacher will be memorable.

I let the English department hosted a Christmas program to be attended by the whole school and let my English classes (each class) do a presentation for their December examination grade. :)   After the Christmas program,  I invited all the teachers in our department for a dinner at a restaurant.  After the dinner, I went along with my boss to her home to spend the night as my place is a little bit distance from the center of the city.

We dine at a round table so our picture was sort of by angle.

Here’s my angle:

It was one cold winter night.  So all the food were hot and spicy plus the red wine.
I cannot remember if we had baijou or the rice wine.
Seems we are all having a blush here. :)

I think almost all of them gave me a gift and when i reached my bosses home, i enjoyed opening my gifts.
Here’s two of them:

When i woke up in the morning, I was excited to open up my present. This one here is from the Penny’s husband, Mr. Nan.
Miniature tea pots.  So cute.  I brought this home to the Philippines when i came back.

And this red scarp/shawl

I left it there thinking i can’t use it here in the Philippines because there is no winter.

We enjoyed taking pictures that morning with shawls.  :)

I remember that around lunch time i went back home because someone will be waiting for me online at 2 pm. :)

I am going back to China for this and other personal stuff. hehehe

I got this Christmas decor from a friend who went to England to study. When he came home to visit in 2004, he came to visit me in my apartment and gave me this. So cute and I still have it until now. What i find funny was that thing got a stamped with a sticker that says: Made in China. He bought it in England and brought it home to China to give it to me. :)

I find made in china exported stuff more durable than their products for local use.

DIMPLE’s Experience with Chicken Pox

She had it when she was in the 5th grade.  Good thing her fever was not worse and still can eat.  All she did was eat and rest and days later when pox turned black, she started playing with your cat.  :)

She does not want me to take her picture, but i was able to take a photo of the biggest pox.

The biggest on her her right side shoulder.

I kept coaxing her to pose for me.  She did finally when she has no more fever and few days before she went back to school –

and she did finally! But, look! can you see her?

The photo I am sharing is a photo of a lighthouse which is located in the Island of Cabilao, Bohol.  Just a stone throw away from La Estrella Beach Resort (old location).

DSC00296

This lighthouse brings back nice memories of a past love.  The first time i laid foot on this lighthouse was during the last few days of January in 1997.  I will say few days because i cannot remember the exact date anymore but i know it was around that time.  I was  3-4 weeks pregnant with my dd (dear daughter) :D

With me to visit this spot was of course of course my boyfriend (Dimple’s dad.)  I am the type who is very scared of heights so i did not make it up to the top.  I guess i lasted midway and he took a photo of me.  I still have that photo now and it obviously shows that i was not relaxed up there, but i managed to smile.

He and I were there on a very important purpose but after 3 days we both felt  a little disappointed because  our mission on why we were was not happening.  Anyway, we sort of just think that the days we spent there was our advance Valentine’s day celebration as our initial plan was to spend Valentine’s day in Bohol, February 14 of that year.  But due to an emergency situation, so we had an early visit to the resort.  It was my first time. Not his because his mom owns the place. :)

In April 2008, Dimple and I had the chance to visit the resort again and yes, we had the chance to stroll to the lighthouse from the new location of the resort.  Taking that photo, memories came flashing back and i smiled to myself because i saw myself in his place long time ago taking picture of me up there.  Now, look at another photo and tell me who is up there –

DSC00288

A back view of someone with long hair.

Guess who?

That’s my daughter!

Oh my she was so brave to make her way to the top.  She even managed to stay awhile to enjoy the view.  I really envy her that time.  But i was already in a state where i can’t climb up heights anymore. lol!   I have i already increased my size twice from the first time i visited the spot.   So, i just end up her photographer of which i did not mind because i was feeling i was her dad. :)

DSC00279

She looked tensed yet she moved upward more.  She’s standing almost at the spot where i sat one day that end of January 2007 – and she was still 3- 4 weeks old fetus inside.  Now, in this photo, that little fetus is standing on the same spot.

How time flies!

Oh memories…you make my heart lighter. :)

My first MBS experience was in 2008. I traveled to General Santos with Dimple because it was a sponsored trip. My sponsor was Paraiso Philippines and he also sponsored the the gasoline expense of one of the speakers from Iligan City so, there was a private car, so i tag Dimple along. :) We both had a great time.  It was our first time seeing a bit of General Santos City.  We traveled from Iligan City to General Santos via Bukidnon, North Cotabato, and Davao Del Sur to General Santos.  There was a nearer route upon reaching a part of North Cotabato but since it was already past 6 pm we decided to go the long route by going to Digos.   After this event, i promised myself to attend the yearly summit.

The third summit was held at Cagayan de Oro City hosted by the cdobloggers. I went alone because there was the registration.  I did not mind not being sponsored because Cagayan de Oro is just a neighbor city.   There were several politician guests that graced the event.  The sunday activity were divided into two – a group went white water rafting and the other group went city tour.  I went with the city tour group as i’ve never been to places that we went to.  Been always to Cagayan de Oro all these years but never set foot inside Xavier University, never been inside the Cathedral, and never been to the huge image of Jesus at Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador.

Now, the third experience is still to come.  In two hours i will be off to Zamboanga City with my daughter and another two companions to attend the 4th Mindanao Bloggers Summit.

I have so many pictures of the past 2 summits i attended but i don’t like to fill this post with them.  Probably will share them in the future after i made summit 4 pictures.  :)

I look forward to this summit because it’s a fun experience.  It’s meeting old friends and making new friends at the same time you feel closer to one another because we share one thing in common — we blog for Mindanao.

Happy reminiscing everyone!

My visit to the Yungang Grottoes or Datong Yungang Caves

A World Heritage Site

yungang 1

The trip was made in May 2005.  Just a few weeks off my schedule flight back to the Philipines.  This was a treat trip given by the school after finishing the whole school year contract.  So everything was free.  How i wished everyone in the department went with me to the trip.  But it was impossible because we did it on a working day.  It was a two day trip.  Destination, Datong City, Shanxi Province.  I’ve stayed there for 3 years but this was the only time i ever stepped outside of Hebei Province excluding plane transfer at HongKong and  Shenzhen when i took a vacation the year before.

So, there was only 4 of us.  Me, Penny (the woman in the pic with me) my boss, Liu Bin, the FAO, and the driver, Mr. Ma.

The highlight of the two day tour was the visit to the Yungang Grottoes  which holds 10,000 Buddha and the largest Buddha measures approximately 19 meters and the smallest one 2 cm.  This  was the first place we went when we arrived there.  After the tour there, we had lunch, checked into a hotel.  In the afternoon we visited a nearby temple and the only 9 dragon wall, glazed type, and the only one in the whole country.

I think this will be  a first one of 2 or 3 parts.  So here are a few photos of me and my companions during the travel.

weathered in time

A Buddha weathered in time.  :(    The neck is almost gone. Blown away by the wind.

yungang 4

Three Buddhas? :)

biggest buddha

Now this is the biggest Buddha in the cave.  The one that gets plenty of attention.  The one that is being picture.  The only one too that can be touched in the face though it was very very tall and so huge.

yungang 3

See! They let me touch it.  Penny got one like this, too.

Reminiscing this trip makes me yearn so much to go and visit my friends over there.  Maybe next week i will share some places we went to see during the afternoon.  Please don’t be bored. ok? :)
