The first photos i’d like to share with you here at Nostalgia was from my Zhangbei trip. My years spent teaching chinese students how to speak english was unforgetable. The last school where i worked was the more unforgetable because it was my last year working in China. I have to come back to try my luck in other another field. Unfortunately, 5 years has passed since i came back..the dream has not been fulfilled.
Anyway, this Zhangbei trip was a treat of my school after working for one whole academic year (sept 2004 – june 2005). It is located 40 kilometers north of northeast Zhangjiakou City where i was working. Zhangjiakou is a county government under the city of zhangjiakou, in the province of Hebei. For the whole three years, i’ve only worked within that province. It’s one of the big provinces of the whole republic.
I remember that it was only a one day trip. We left around 8 am. The school assigned the FAO in-charge. I want the head of my department to go along with the trip, but since she went along me to a trip to Datung, she assigned one of the chinese english teachers to come. 2 guys! I feel uncomfortable so i asked one of my students, Helen, to come along with me. So there were 5 of us who made the trip and that includes the driver.

Here’s me with the driver and Helen (Lun Li Li). s was taken in the restaurant where we had lunch.

This is Larry with me and Helen. Larry, is one of the chinese english teachers in the department so he does not have a hard time accompanying me anywhere. Helen is loves accompanying me too so that she can practice her oral english.
The view in Zhangbei county is a vast area of green grasses (prairie) and the blue sky is just so overwhelming. I love it there! Great time going there is middle spring time when it is not yet too hot during day time.

Me in local attire. Native mongolian attire. Behind me is an altar for sacrifice that is why am holding that little box acting like i wanna make a sacrifice. I didn’t want to wear the local attire because i was thinking am just a visitor. But my companions forced me to wear one just for photo purposes.

Larry and Helen in local costume. I like their costume. Then we took this photo to emphasize that am the visitor to their place. I am the foreigner. I am a laowai (foreigner)

Here’s the 4 of us – Liu Bin, Foreign Affairs Officer of Zhangjiakou Vocational and Technical School, Larry, one of the english teachers, Helen, one of the students in the English Department and me.
It was a very unforgetable trip. This trip was made 2 days before taking the train to Beijing to catch a train for HongKong.
Photos made: June 2005
Location: Zhangbei Plains, Zhangjiakou, PR China
We had a long weekend because last Monday was a holiday (Independence Day). So Tuesday we went back to work. Wednesday we are enjoying another holiday because it’s the Charter Day of Iligan City. Thus i was hoping last week we could sandwich Tuesday as part of the holiday. But nah it did not happen that way.
Let me enumerate some TEN THINGS i did that day:
1. Was at the office before 9 am.
2. I wore red blouse paired with black skirt to work.
3. Filled up an employee’s update form at the HR.
4. I was invited to go along to CDO the next day but i declined because i was planning for a movie marathon Tuesday night.
5. Had a chat with Sandy. She shared me some photos of the house they are going to rent in Cebu.
6. Tasted a durian pie.
7. Missed gym because i said i was going the next day.
8. Stayed up so late at night online on FB.
9. Met a new friend. She’s so friendly and I hope to meet her someday.
10. Watched WHEN IN ROME!
What am doing now is multi-tasking. Thinkin on what to write and also browsing for freebies that are up for grabs. i check out my favorite digital scrapping site and i just found out so many freebies. The thing is that i can’t download much using my laptop although i want to because i wanna do LOs from home. The pc i have here in the office is sort of full that it stucks when i do LOs.
I just came in from the gym so my lappy is still in the dorm. Maybe tomorrow while i will do the tasks my boss asks me do then i would try to DL direct to my lappy. I just don’t trust transferring files from my office pc to my laptop because this pc is pregnant with virus.
I wondering if when a company promotes a product do they distribute a trial pack for the customers to try on before buying in bulk? The reason I am asking because i saw this new weight loss product up in the market. But i don’t wanna buy the whole bottle. I am hoping for a trial pack for a week so that i won’t waste my money buying the whole when it does not work for me.
Whole day yesterday, i haven’t eaten any rice although i had some kind of noodles for lunch. I had some bread and noodles for my carb needs. I had lots of vegetables and fruits. After the gym this morning, i had a serving of plain boiled vegetables, a piece of banana, and sauted potatoes with egg. I hope i can last the whole week without rice. Hmmm let me see because there will be two days holiday this week and tomorrow we are off to a birthday celebration.
But i guess it’s not time for any excuse. I should be committed to reach my goal.
Today we ripped this meme off a blogger named Dana at the blog Amid Life’s Questions. Today is a special meme. Dana explains why! “Let’s see, this started out as Jay doing Savannah’s “Questions” meme – a meme with a twist. Jay asked some great questions – I couldn’t resist the pull to the “dark side.” So, in the same spirit, at Sunday Stealing we’ve added ten of our own questions! Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

I visited a friend’s blog earlier and she said that she lies shopping in Chinese shops because what they sell are very affordable. I agree with her but the like or love is not what i feel. Having worked there for several years, i can say that not all their stuff are of good quality. If you buy a dress at low cost then expect that the dress will just be good for a month or two. U can almost call them disposable because after a couple of use they are not as good as the sellers promised to be. With that experience I am wondering what would it be like if one buys cheap auto insurance ? I hope that they are still legitimate insurances even they are bought at a very low price. Products made in china for export purposes are durable. But their local products for the local populace is never as good as those that are exported.

There are several pending requests here in my table. Pending because it has not reached the right person to sign yet. Possibly by Tuesday. Not MOnday because we are going to have a long weekend. One of the requests is to open an exit passage at the entrance gate and for sure with that they will install exit signs from the minimart area, fastfoods area, and the hospital area so that everyone will know that they can exit at the main entrance of the college.
Signage are very important as they are visible guides for everyone. That even without asking anyone, it can lead you to your destination.
